Instantbird: Mozilla does chat

Instantbird is still in early beta. But version 0.1 already shows some promise. The application is a multi-client chat program letting you connect to popular instant messaging services including AOL, MSN, and Yahoo!. You know, pretty much like Pidgin. In fact, Instantbird uses libpurple, the same code library used by Pidgin.
Version 0.1 is still pretty buggy, Instantbird has a long road in front of it. The goal for version 1.0? Make a chat client that has all the same features as Pidgin. But beyond that, the developers hope to add voice and video functionality to Instantbird, which would make it a killer multi-protocol messenger application.
Like most things Mozilla, Instantbird comes in Linux, Windows, and Mac varieties. But we don't really recommend compiling it from source on Ubuntu unless you really know what we're doing. We waited over 2 hours for it to compile before getting an error message.

I love World of Goo. I bought it a while back, and it's one of the most addictive games I've played.
That's part of the reason why I was so excited to find Moonlights. It shares a lot of elements with World of Goo, but is very different, too.
Like in World of Goo, you have to construct something stable out of unstable elements, and your structure needs to get to a certain destination. But that's where the similarities end, really.
Where World of Goo has a ton of personality, Moonlights is minimalistic, almost austere. ...

Is it just me, or is the word "bird" being overused in Mozilla-based applications? Think of Thunderbird, Songbird, Sunbird... and now the (awkwardly named, IMO) Instantbird.

No, we don't what YOU are doing :-D. But anyway, if you are not a developer you really don't want to compile it.

On Ubuntu 7.04 the build takes about an hour. I don't know what you did.

That is there MO. Birds. Every product they make has the word "bird" in it.(Firefox used to be firebird till they had to change it because someone else already has that name).
Now instantbird sounds silly, they should of went with Parrot.....

Does anyone know if they'll have good video/audio support? I really want a GOOD video/audio chatting program in Ubuntu. Many of my friends and family have Macs and I would love to be able to video conference with them.
